Description

In Book 3: What Work? students apply their skills and knowledge to specific vocational areas, and learn literacy, language and workplace skills needed in a range of jobs.

The units of work are:

• Childcare
• Building
• Sport and recreation
• Hospitality
• Automotive
• Retail
• Manufacturing
• Running your own business

Each unit of work contains a range of learning activities focusing on the particular literacy and language requirements of that industry, and includes:

• a list of common industry words
• an outline of some of the jobs that are available
• sample job advertisements and questions
• photocopiable worksheets and information related to the industry
• an industry-specific crossword or word find

Students who use this book will gain an understanding of some of the necessary literacy and language skills in an industry which is of interest to them, so they will be in a better position to ‘speak the language’ of a workplace.

Skills for Work can be used in a number of ways:
