The book is divided into two halves with a supplementary audio CD for each: the first half uses songs and speaking and listening exercises to introduce new grammar rules, while the second uses popular Japanese songs to introduce new vocabulary and points on Japanese culture.

The content is entirely in Japanese text and all kanji is supplemented with furigana, making it an accessible pedagogical resource for both native and non-native Japanese language teachers.
